HMBSociety invited talk – Visit to the Vandenberghe lab for Gene Therapy at MEEI/HMS

November 21, 2019 @ 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM

Luk Vandenberghe, PhD
Grousbeck Family Associate Professor in Gene Therapy, Harvard
Associate Member, The Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT
Director, Grousbeck Gene Therapy Center, Mass Eye and Ear
Founding Member of GenSight Biologics, Akouos and Odylia Therapeutics

Gene therapy is a novel modality in medicine in which the drug is a gene or genetic information. This relies on the ability to transfer a therapeutic gene safely and efficiently to diseased tissues and cells. To date, the most effective approach to achieve this in the lab, in the clinic, and more recently as drug products is by engineering vector systems based on viruses.

Dr. Vandenberghe will discuss his research over the past two decades covering the study and discovery of technologies now leading the field and development of gene therapies including Zolgensma (AveXis/Novartis), recently in the news in Belgium regarding Baby Pia. We welcome you all for an evening of science, medicine and discussion accompanied by a beverage and small bite.

Please RSVP through the facebook event.
